Black Full Grain Leather Upper

This Carolina steel toe loggers boot uses a black full grain leather upper for those of you that like the black leather. Single piece slip-resistant, oil-resistant logger sole with the high heel 90-degree angle for climbing poles and high places.

Steel Toe

You got a steel toe safety cap, so this does have the steel toe protection. The nice thing about this logging boot is that it also has a steel shank. The steel shank is extremely important when you are climbing.

By climbing I mean not just the getting up on the ladder but when you got to do some lineman work, when you got to climb 90 feet up a pole for you know in order cut wire or something, this boot is going to come in really handy.

That steel shank is going to give you the hard support that you need at that height.

Waterproof Scubaliner

This boot is 100% waterproof with a membrane, and the leather is also treated with mink oil. Because of that, you are going to get a lot of wear out of this one before you start thinking of retreating the leather with mink oil.

This membrane also protects the upper against unpredictable elements. It also has moisture-wicking properties and heat management which I’m going to be talking about more later on.

Carolina calls their waterproof liner the Scubaliner. I’m sure you already know that by now. Since making this site, all I have reviewed are the Carolina boots. And, most of those boots have this Scubaliner. I’ve had no complaints about this boot getting wet or leaking.

Keep in mind that this boot is not insulated. So, it’s an uninsulated waterproof steel toe logger.

Goodyear Welt Construction

This boot has a fully welted construction system. That welt ties the single piece sole altogether. The lining that they use on this boot will wick moisture away and help keep your feet dry.

Brass Eyelets

Carolina does a really nice job with all their brass eyelets. They also took it up a notch by adding the single piece machine brass speed lace that makes it really easy to lace up as you are sitting on top of the boot zigzagging them.

Out Of The Box

Out of the box, this logger looks really beautiful. It really does. It feels really good too. It feels like you are actually holding a leather boot. And not something that you know has a vinyl feel.

It’s really hard to express what I’m trying to say in words; you know that cheap plastic feeling that some no-name boots give out, that kind of feeling.

You can really feel the oil in this boot as you rub your hands across it when it comes out of the box. And, that’s pretty synonymous with Carolina.

They usually really oil up their boots, and they send them out feeling and looking really good.

Who Is This Carolina Logger Boot For?

The guys that usually buy this boot are usually the guys that are loggers or are going to lineman school — companies like AT&T and other companies where they are still doing lineman work.

Now, in the city, there is not much climbing work left to do as there is out in the rural areas. There is a lot of bucket trucks, there is a lot of cherry pickers, but the guys still buy this boot.

Once you break it in, this boot is extremely comfortable.

Breaking In A Pair Of Logger Boots

So, when it comes to breaking in a pair of Carolina logging boots, I’ve been told all kinds of old ways of breaking them in. Some age-old methods are getting them soaked and taking a walk in them and doing things and doing that, if you are still following those old methods, STOP!

Hey, if that works for you, then that works for you. But I do it differently. What I have found and it is probably the best way to break in a pair of loggers is slowly.

Hit it slowly. Do a few hours and take it off, go put something else on. Give it a break for a day or two and put it back on. Slowly break this boot in.

Your feet are important, and they make you money. So, why you’re going to hurt them trying to get this boot softened up and ready to work in.

So, far it’s all going in the favor of the Carolina CA9823 steel toe boot. But no boot is made perfect. There is one small detail that I don’t like about this one.

This boot is not made domestically. This price reflects that because when you see this one on the wall next to one of those other companies, it’s a little bit easier on the pocket.

Fit & Size

You can wear them every day for 12-18+ hours. If you have high arches and need a lot of support, these are by far the most comfortable logger boots you can get your hands on.

From climbing ladders to digging ditches, farming to flooring, driving equipment to bike riding, you can wear them with ease. Most of the guys that bought this boot are very happy with how they fit.
